Get to Know Me

Located in the heart of where the Redwoods and the Northern Californian Coast meet my practice is located in Eureka in Humboldt County, CA.  This majestic and nature oriented location sets the backdrop for my work as therapist.  In my personal time I love exploring and doing my own healing through interacting with nature, the ocean, and all the beautiful outdoor spaces that living in this rural area provides. In my time away from work I am an artist, surfer, musician, father, and husband.

My path to becoming a therapist was not linear and includes previous experience working as a youth mentor, surf instructor, visual artist, teacher, and work with immigrant communities as a care worker.  I also have a BA in Art from the University of Oregon and a minor in Spanish after living abroad in Central America.  This all informed my path to becoming a mental health therapist and to the decision to combine all my experience into gaining a Masters in Social Work from Portland State University in 2014.

My Professional Background

What Makes Me Unique

I began my journey as a mental health/behavioral health therapist in 2014 working at a local non-profit in Humboldt County, CA.  There I gained the necessary hours and training to gain licensure in the state working with youth, families, and adults as a mental health clinician.  I worked in an office setting, school settings, and in community/outdoor settings as well.  After gaining licensure and completing my time as an intern I was hired at Humboldt County Mental Health at the Children, Youth and, Family Clinic.  There I was considered the teenage specialist and gained further experience and understanding of treating youth and their families.

Started in January 2020 to present

After gaining experience in the public service and community work I decided to start my own private practice in 2020 in hopes to continue to grow as a therapist and to be able to serve my clients in a more authentic, genuine, and specialized manner.  I see clients from a diverse range of backgrounds, genders, and cultural orientations and work  with clients of all ages and phases of life.  In addition, due to my experience, I specialize in seeing teens and young adults and their families. I love working with this population and helping them through change and growth while alleviating mental health challenges that arise during this phase of life.

I am an artist and incorporate expressive arts therapy into my practice and am an avid surfer, backpacker, and nature enthusiast.  In accordance, I am increasing exploring ways to incorporate nature and eco therapy into my practice and the wellness of my clients, and am working to integrate individual and group surf therapy sessions into my practice.  I was recently trained in Surf Therapy for Trauma Recovery and look forward to sharing this with my community.
