Bo Hamer, LCSW
Compassionate Mental Health Treatment
Working from a relational perspective in a trauma informed manner, I have experience working with adults, youth, and couples using a multi-theoretical approach including Attachment theory, Cognitive-behavioral therapy, Family systems, Narrative therapy, Internal Family systems, art therapy techniques, Emotionally Focused therapy for couples, Emotional Freedom/energy psychology techniques, and somatic techniques. I love to incorporate and work with client's spirituality and address existential questions and highly value the role of nature in healing and wellness for my clients. I currently hold Certified Clinical Trauma Professional Level 2 training, Attachment Trauma Certification, and Surf therapy for Trauma Recovery. For couples work, I use Emotionally Focused Therapy techniques and Attachment theory.

All About Therapy
I have experience treating depression, anxiety disorders, trauma based disorders such as PTSD, relational issues, anger management, ADHD, and men's issues. I have over 10 years of experience working with adults, adolescents, couples, and families as a mental health therapist in Humboldt County. I offer compassionate and supportive counseling that will help clients reduce symptoms and guide clients towards healing. In addition, I am a Certified Clinical Trauma Professional with Level 2 training and am working on an Attachment Trauma Treatment Specialist certification.
Going through mental health struggles is always a challenge but I believe when we come into contact with adversity and even pain, that is often when we have the greatest capacity for change and transformation, and I love being my clients guide through this process. As a lifelong surfer, former surf instructor, and former ocean lifeguard I am working to develop a surf therapy program where I can offer individual surf therapy sessions as well as groups. My experience and past education as a visual artist also allows me to incorporate art therapy techniques into my practice especially with youth. In addition, as a Social Worker I adhere to our values and seek to be as inclusive as possible to those who feel marginalized in the larger society, face discrimination, or are dealing with poverty.
